Bob Egleston Photography

I developed a passion for photography at an early age, but it was not until Junior High School that I started to seriously enjoy photography. Without any training or understanding of what photography was all about, I began to search for compositions in the landscape. I would take time to photograph my grandparent’s farm in the hills of eastern Kentucky or try and set up a photoshoot of any of my model cars and trucks. But with a point and shoot camera, there were real limitations. My interest intensified as I started to enjoy photographing the scenery on our yearly vacations to Canada. I loved being out in the peace and quiet of a pristine Canadian lake. During high school, my interest took a different direction and upon graduation I attended the University of Cincinnati, where I obtained a degree in architecture. I ended up being more of a technical architect, but photography was always my creative outlet. It became a part of everything I did.

From the days of the Apollo program, I had a love of space exploration. Moving to Central Florida after graduation, I was able to witness many space shuttle launches in person. Especially rewarding was receiving an assignment from my college alumni magazine to cover the final shuttle mission, STS 135, and interview numerous UC alumni who worked on the program for NASA. I was equally enthusiastic about the Ford Mustang. As a devoted enthusiast, I spent time covering national shows for Mustang Times magazine. I very much enjoyed interviewing car owners and photographing their beautiful rides.

At the same time, I was able to photograph several architectural projects for my firm. This developed into a serious exploration of architectural photography. The goal of each shoot was to identify compositions that told a story about the building and the design intent. Working closely with the design architects to understand the important parts of their design vision was especially rewarding and helped to inform those important compositions.

As a photographer I find great joy in photographing the natural environment. I have been fortunate to have traveled to Europe and enjoyed photographing the Alps, the Scandinavian coast, or the lovely countryside of Britain. But equally beautiful is the scenery found in our timeless national parks here in the US. It is so easy to have feelings of insignificance when standing in the Yosemite Valley and admiring El Capitan or Half Dome.

My goal in photography is to develop compositions that pull a person into a photograph and elicit an emotional response. Great photography can take a person to a different place, whether it is the built environment or in a quiet alpine scene. I hope you enjoy that in my photographs. Thank you for taking time to read about my journey.
